Brick Paving Versus Gravel Versus Grass
February 28, 2011 by Hanna08 · 3 Comments
Should you have a large yard, you might have perhaps contemplated what the ideal route would be to follow to best utilize this big piece of property. Should you transform it into a gorgeous designer garden, cover it with pebbles or maybe turn it into a larger parking area for your family and friends through brick paving?
Let’s take a look at a couple of pros and cons connected to a garden, gravel and brick paving.
If you decide to turn your front yard into a gorgeous garden, you will have many , many years of beauty and elegance to take pleasure from, however , you should be aware that it will take a lot of money, time and patience to properly maintain a large garden. You’ll have the primary cost of a landscape artist to make suggestions on the initial layout, then the actual grass, plants and flowers, pesticides, flower treatments and probably someone to assist you with maintaining the garden at least once a week.
I personally like the thought of covering the whole area with pebbles. I think it creates a very stylish appearance and it is much easier to sustain than a big garden. Another advantage point is that pebbles add some further security to your premises as it is easy to hear if an intruder is on your property. It is generally simple enough to keep the gravel neat and tidy – a garden broom once in a while should do the trick. The biggest expenditure you’ll have if you want to use pebbles is to use a proper material between the pebbles and the soil. Don’t just throw the pebbles on the ground and think that you are done! A water-proof sheeting is required and should be properly secured before you can offload a truckload of gravel in the yard!
Brick paving is also a wonderful way of adding some class and style to your front yard. With the different hues, designs and types of bricks readily available you can really be as innovative as you want to with a beautiful driveway, pathway or with a couple of other features in the yard. Bricks are generally quite easy to maintain and keep clean, as long as the paving is done correctly right from the start. A company that specializes in brick paving would be the best people for the job. They need to ensure that the bricks are properly aligned and sealed, otherwise your brick paving can easily start to chip and break and it will also allow weeds and other gremlins to invade the paving.
These are just three possibilities to liven up your big front yard without an excessive amount of effort. Choosing which solution would be the best for your particular needs and requirements will depend on your budget, how much time you are willing to devote to the maintenance every month and of course, personal preference! No matter what route you follow, it’s always best to ask some specialist advice. Doing it right from the start will prevent future problems and issues!

Special Bridal Lingerie
February 18, 2010 by Hanna08 · 8 Comments
Introduction
When a woman (or man for that matter) gets married it is the most important day of their life . A great deal of time, effort and money is spent on making it the most perfect and memorable day so naturally everyone wants to look their best. Women hope to be at the peak of their looks and fitness. In biological terms it is a message to say a woman is in perfect condition to bear beautiful, healthy children for her mate. Most women go to extraordinary lengths to be the best they can be. Some lose pounds in weight; others spend lots of pounds on hair do’s and facials, not to mention the financial outlay on the dress. Just as important is the lingerie as this usually plays the supporting role. Much more attention is now given to the wedding lingerie for this important day. No self respecting woman would go to her wedding without having made the greatest effort to look her best from top to toe and that includes the underwear for the day.
Choosing the Perfect Bridal Lingerie
What to wear under your wedding dress? Whatever dress style you have chosen for your big day, having gorgeous bridal lingerie with the right balance between comfort, control, and sexiness is vitally important. Although it may not be much talked about it is essential to ensure the underwear is selected to provide the best possible outline and support to enhance your wedding dress. One person I know had the most beautiful slim line dress however because she was so slim she did not have enough bosom to fill the boned top. Altering the dress would have spoiled the line and proportion so she chose to wear a liquid filled bra which filled it out nicely and made all the difference. Ensuring the bride wears the correct undergarments will enhance the outline of that perfect wedding dress
Lingerie for the Wedding Night
As well as the undergarments for the wedding day, there is the consideration of the wedding night apparel. A special wedding night only happens once, so no matter what your body shape and size, choosing sexy lingerie can really make your honeymoon sizzle.
There is no one right answer to what you choose for your wedding night. You may feel self conscious about a certain part of your body and prefer to cover up. Lingerie is often a long term investment, so a selection of colours may appeal, but for the actual wedding night, white, ivory, or a soft light pink is a nice touch. If you have bought a special piece of lingerie for your wedding night you might want to let him use the bathroom first, or take a moment for yourself after returning to the hotel, so that you can take your time to put on your new sexy lingerie. You can then make your grand entrance and appreciate the look on your husband’s face. Of course you might decide not to bother at all and to simply peel off your dress in front of your new husband to reveal a garter belt. The main thing is that you feel good in whatever you wear, or are not, wearing.
What about Plus Size Lingerie?
Most lingerie shops and online suppliers stock a good range of regular and plus sizes which are very flattering. Oprah’s comment on plus sizes was ‘don’t worry, your new husband already loves your body and will certainly enjoy it accented by sexy silk and lace’. Some men prefer girly lace and pink panties while others get aroused at the thought of black leather or a naughty red lacy number. You should be comfortable in whatever you choose, but also go for a style that your husband can really enjoy.
Whatever your choice of wedding dress there is suitable bridal underwear to match that will make the most of your figure.
History of Bridal Lingerie
Years ago young women would start putting away items in their bottom drawer in readiness for the day they got married. Once there was a prospective husband in sight they would spend the evenings sewing their trousseau in preparation for their wedding day and life as a new wife. Rich families would have the trousseau made for them with going away outfits and underwear and nightwear to last for many years. That way the new husband did not have to lay out money for his wife’s clothes for some time. Less well off families made these garments themselves and would make petticoats, bloomers and bust supports all sewn by hand. I remember my grandmother using a stitch known as shell stitch to hem petticoats giving them an pretty scalloped edge.
The word trousseau suggests mostly underwear and nightwear for the bride although outer wear was also part of the itinerary. An article from the New York Times 1912 outlines a guide to ‘The Lingerie for the Summer Bride’. It states that ‘no wardrobe is so fascinating to gather and plan for as the trousseau’ It suggests that a dozen of all undergarments are required but if necessary 8 pairs of drawers (knickers to you and me) were sufficient, except for petticoats where six would be enough. It advises not to have too many clothes because the fashions might alter in six months and your garments would be outmoded. It says it is better to have a few good quality gowns rather than many cheaper ones. Although cheaper underwear would be acceptable as the cut would be just as good as for the more expensive items. To complete the bridal trousseau it was essential to have a negligee for the wedding night and the article advises two for the honeymoon.
For the respectable woman it was important to wear the proper clothes for different occasions. It seemed you were what you wore and your status in society was judged by your clothes. The richer you were the more elaborate and expensive the costumes. Naturally to be correctly dressed you would also have the appropriate lingerie to wear underneath. However the regular lingerie women wore on a daily basis would be the same on their wedding day, except that it would usually be new.
Even today there are some women who put on clean underwear to go out because of the traditions and how were raised. People would wear their old underwear around the house because it usually had holes in. The explanation for putting on their best underwear was, that if they had an accident they would not be shamed if they were seen wearing old underwear. Obviously this is a very outmoded idea now because clothes are so much cheaper and readily available than they used to be with the result that very few people need to ever wear worn out underwear.
Do you know that old saying: – Something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue? It is interesting how these old sayings are handed down and we still pay homage to them when the time comes. When I got married I was well supplied with the borrowed as I had borrowed both the dress and the veil from different people. My satin shoes were old having been worn for formal dances and I had a blue bow on my underskirt. My main problem was having anything new so in the end I bought some lingerie to wear on the day.
Years ago a negligee was considered an essential item of bridal lingerie and was given almost as much consideration as the wedding dress.
The Bridal Shower
The Bridal Showers is a relatively new idea in Britain although it is common in the States. It is believed to have begun in Holland when a young couple who did not have a dowry were given gifts from the people of the town instead. This also suggests the beginning of the custom of giving contributions when people get married, as dowries are not common place in our western culture.
The bridal shower term may have arisen from a particular party where one of the guests opened an umbrella full of gifts over the head of the bride to be. Hence the term ‘Shower’. Bridal showers have different themes and one is the lingerie bridal shower which is traditionally an all female event. A lingerie party involves more romantic gifts than the usual bridal shower. These parties are a great way to give personal gifts that are just for the bride herself or to share with her soon to be husband. The chief bridesmaid or matron, of honour is generally the initiator and hostess of the lingerie bridal shower. It is her job to invite the female friends and any family of the bride that would enjoy the party and then each guest brings a gift of lingerie.
Lingerie for Men
So far our focus has been on women’s Lingerie but in today’s more affluent society, even though there is a credit crunch, men are increasingly conscious of their underwear and how their bodies look in it. In the past men mostly did physical work so without any thought on their part, they developed strong muscular bodies when they were in their prime of life, particularly in the farming community where there was plenty to eat. However today men mostly have inactive jobs and need to go to the gym and exercise etc to develop the muscle they desire. To go with their awareness of developing their physique men are now more concerned with the style of their underwear.
It is interesting how fashions seem to go full circle. Many years ago men wore Long-Johns in the cold weather especially when they were working out of doors, now they have become stylish thermal underwear for sports activities. Also when I was young I remember my father wearing boxer type underwear. Then 20 years later Y fronts were the rage and there were the jokes about John Major wearing his Y fronts on the outside. In fact there was a serialised cartoon in the Guardian featuring John Major with his underpants on the outside. Then 20 years on again boxer shorts are back in vogue with a designer label. Even the latest brief boxer shorts do not look much different from the original version of the Y fronts, but they still call them boxers. And I won’t go into thongs and other specialist items of male underwear!
So be assured that lingerie is not just a subject for women, men also make it, design it, and buy it. Women aren’t the only ones who can wear something sexy on their wedding night so having bought all your own new underwear for your special day, how about kitting out your fiancée with some exotic new men’s underwear as well? Men like designer underwear too and may also enjoy some silky new boxers or a robe to wear around the hotel room.
There is plenty of choice of mens boxers when looking on the internet for a special present for your man.
Evolution of Lingerie
At one time the wearing of underwear was exclusively a masculine prerogative. Between 1830 and 1914 women relied on several layers of fabric under the dress and long skirts to cover themselves. The corset from earliest times was intended to create a body shape that disguised the natural form but over time it evolved to accentuate the bust and reduce the size of the waist.
Lingerie originally came into being for the purpose of covering the body for modesty and for personal hygiene. In the beginning these undergarments were designed all in one piece and were not exactly what we would consider sexy. But, with a little help from the French, the revolution in women’s underwear evolved as a sexy and deadly weapon when the revealing two pieces lingerie was introduced. From 1914 the Taly bodice came into being which consisted of silk fabric that surrounded the breasts for support, and we know it today as the bra. During this period women were socially empowered in conjunction with their release from the corset.
Between 1910 and 1919 Isadora Duncan the dancer deeply inspired lingerie fashion, by leaving off corsets to free the body for full movement of the dance. During the period between the thirties and fifties there was little sensual interest for underclothes; they were conservative and practical. This was probably because this period was just after the depression and then during, and just after the Second World War. It was a time of hardship and there were shortages of fabric, food and money, to such an extent that rationing was introduced in the early forties.
During the 60′s the “hippie movement” generated a breakthrough attitude towards lingerie. Women were encouraged to burn their bra’s and allow their bodies to be free of constraint of any kind. However since the 80′s, lingerie has become a desired fashion statement helped by the sexual icons of the time such as Madonna. Ann Summers lingerie with her sales parties became the designer underwear to have. At the present time women choose with equal attention their undergarments and sometimes with more emphasis than the outer clothes.
The evolution of lingerie follows or maybe leads the changes in the standing of woman. From being the victims of attacks and violations with no rights of their own (and no underwear), women have developed into what we know today. The modern woman is confident and strong and comfortable with her own power. Lingerie has become a sociological phenomenon demonstrating the authentic self of a woman and with that women have multiplied their spending on sexy lingerie and undergarments. The social development of women had progressed in step with each stage of the evolution in the underwear and lingerie worn at the time.
Conclusion
So whatever your preferences, a woman likes to spend time getting her bridal lingerie right. It has always been a time of female sharing and intimacy of what to wear and how to be on the wedding night. These days of course couples often live together before marriage sometimes for many years, so the old mixture of secrecy and excitement and even fear have all but disappeared. However the wedding day and wedding night are still singular times and undressing to reveal your underwear has its place. Choosing something different, more exotic or titillating will help make the event memorable and something special to be treasured in the years to come.
Find More On Graphic Design Companies Results
February 14, 2010 by Hanna08 · 5 Comments
Normally, if you want to have professional web designers custom build your site, you must be prepared to dish out at least a couple thousand Rands. These companies are established companies with physical locations, therefore they have to increase the amount they charge to pay off some overheads: office rent, designer’s wages, advertising costs and so on.
Therefore, it would be wise to find freelance web designers who work from home. However, choose your web designer with care. Another route you can take is to design your website yourself.
You need a deep understanding of marketing on the Internet, how search engines work, what visitors want and how to sell to be able to make your site a success.
Convincing your prospects to purchase from you is a hard job, but have you ever thought that you’re making the process twice as difficult for both parties if your prospects are convinced but don’t know how to buy from you? No matter how good you are at convincing your prospects, they won’t buy if they find the process cumbersome. You can also reduce the chances of losing prospects by putting a prominent link to your order page from every other page on your site.
After all, it wouldn’t make any sense to sell hard to a prospect only to find that they won’t be able to pay you when they want to. On the other hand, you will want to prove that you are a credible merchant.
Alternatively, you can add customer testimonials, your contact information, address, and so on to boost your prospects’ confidence.
Eliminate any chances of that to maximize your profits! Flash-based sites have been a craze since the past few years, and as Macromedia compiles more and more great features into Flash, we can only predict there will be more and more flash sites around the Internet.
Programmers and designers have used Flash to create interactve features ranging from very lively feedback forms to attractive Flash-based games. With Flash, you do not have to worry about cross-browser compatibility. Flash is a lightweight option for animation because it is vector based (and hence smaller file sizes) as opposed to real ‘movie files’ that are raster based and hence much larger in size.
If you want to know more about web designers then you should have a look at web designer as well as website designer
People have to download the Flash player in advance before they can view Flash movies, so by using Flash your visitor range will decrease considerably because not everyone will be willing to download the Flash player just to view your site. If your content was presented in Flash, most search engines wouldn’t be able to index your content.
Users have to wait longer than usual to load Flash content compared to regular text and images, and some visitors might just lose their patience and click the Back button. The best way to go is to use Flash only when you absolutely need the interactivity and motion that comes with it.
It is very time consuming and therefore more expensive to develop. Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarter of an offline company.
Make sure you have clear directions on the navigation of your website. If you think any image is essential on your site, make sure you optimize them using image editing programs so that they have a minimum file size.
If a paragraph is too long, you should split it into seperate paragraphs so that the text blocks will not be too big. If your website looks great in Internet Explorer but breaks horribly in Firefox and Opera, you will lose out on a lot of prospective visitors. Use CSS to style your page content because they save alot of work by styling all elements on your website in one go.
All about Creed perfumes
December 24, 2009 by Hanna08 · 6 Comments
Perfumes are one of life’s luxuries that many of us can afford to indulge our senses in. There are many new designer perfume houses around today that cater to the growing demand for quality perfume. Many of these perfume houses are giant companies who produce tons of perfume using modern methods and ingenuity. Creed perfume on the other hand is still made according to the olden ways.
Creed perfume came in to existence in 1760. This is when its founder and original master perfumer started making beautiful perfumes. As these perfumes captured the interest of royalty like Queen Victoria, Napoleon III, Empress Eugenie and others the Creed perfume house soon began to be noticed by the rest of the nobility.
As time passed the house of Creed perfume was known for their superior quality, refinement and the originality that was displayed in their products. All of their perfume was completely hand created right from the start using only the finest products and raw materials.
When the House of Creed moved their business to Paris they soon gathered even more new clientele. As this new clientele was very selective and possessing discriminating taste for excellent quality items and goods, over two hundred Creed perfume masterpieces were created. All of these scents very exclusive fragrances that were made for those very important customers.
Even today this high standard of quality is followed in the family business of producing unique Creed perfumes that people desire to wear. To make such a quality perfume like a genuine Creed perfume only the best essential oils are hand selected by the master perfumer himself. From these essences lovely perfumes are hand blended together to create that unique touch that is the mark of a Creed perfume.
Following in the family’s tradition exclusive perfume bottles are made to hold these wondrous scents. In addition to making perfumes from the existing oils the House of Creed produce its own oils. The method that is used by the Creed master perfumer lets him create new oil combinations as a result.
As a result of these techniques Creed perfume manufacturing is still following in the tradition of producing extremely good and unique perfumes that appeal to a vast following of discerning clients. The perfume bottles of the House of Creed are original like the perfumes and they have glass stoppers that are covered with a natural leather. This leather covering helps to preserve the fragrances that are found in the bottles.
Each of the Creed perfume creations are works of art. They follow in the age old traditions of the House of Creed. Many of the Creed perfumes are very similar to that of the ones that were enjoyed by the royalty of yesteryear. The House of Creed has been making Creed perfumes for over 240 years and they are still going strong.

Your Guide to Cheap Wholesale Handbags
December 15, 2009 by Hanna08 · 11 Comments
Ever wondered what a Handbag Outlet Mall is and why in the world would they have cheap wholesale handbags? Why do they exist anyway? Doesn’t a fancy designer brand name make you think of all things expensive and affordable only to the rich?
Like all trendy handbag designers and manufacturers, Kooba Handbags is not safe from errors in their production or produce more than usual. These unfortunate rejects are generally called overstocks or seconds. Since the manufacturer wants to maintain a reputation for exceptional quality, these handbags generally don’t make it out of the factory to the department store floor.
When the trendy handbags they produce suffer from any blemishes or flaws without the quality that is demanded, they get sent to an Outlet Mall instead. Don’t get me wrong, as the handbags are still in great condition to sell. Sometimes, the scratch or blemish is too small for the casual observer to see. There will always be seasonal designer handbags that don’t sell out, and these are usually sent to an outlet store.
Christian Dior designer handbags are one of the most sellable brands in the world, so to be seen with a Dior between your arms, in your hand or by your side can make you look like a million bucks. It is not only popular among the rich and affluent; the average woman would certainly love to own a Dior handbag.
But what about those occasions where money is somewhat lacking? Now you understand why the Outlet Mall should be the first rather than last place you look! Because Outlet Malls are able to purchase these women’s handbags surpluses or rejects in huge volumes, they are able to pass on the savings to their customers. If you are looking for that old unique design, you can certainly get them there at discounted prices.
Clothes For Dogs – Brighten Them Up!
November 16, 2009 by Hanna08 · 8 Comments
“Man’s best friend” really can have it all. We feed them, walk them, pet them, bath them and love them; and not only that we also buy clothes for our dogs. Buying clothes for dogs has become more and more popular as the years go by. We can now buy many varieties of clothes for dogs: shirts and tee shirts, dresses, boots, socks, sweaters and sweatshirts, coats and rain jackets, holiday attire and even fancy collars and clothes for dogs that have custom designs printed on them. Some websites specialize in clothes for small dogs; some specialize in big dog clothes. Our pampered pets can be so stylishly dressed that you can even find clothes for dogs trimmed with lace, leather, fur or rhinestones. The practice of buying clothes for dogs became more popular when the movie stars began dressing their pets in fancy clothes and carrying them in their purses or in designer carriers.
You can find a nice collection of clothes for dogs at your local pet store but boutique apparel is mostly found online. Clothes for dogs is becoming so popular that many different websites are springing up. Many site owners request your dog’s measurements and then sew the clothing specifically for your beloved pooch. No cookie cutter clothes for that lucky dog!
A lot of men prefer to buy tee shirts for their dogs with their favorite sport team emblazoned on it. But many dog owners are interested in purchasing just a warm sweater or jacket to keep Fido feeling toasty during those long winter months. These sweaters and jackets come in many different styles, colors and materials. Some dog owners feel that especially older dogs should be attired in a jacket or sweater when they go out in the cold.
If you’re looking to find the perfect piece of clothing for your dog, take some time to look around the different website. Most prices start at about $9.99 and can go as high as you’re willing to pay.

All this can change if you know where to find the best deals, the best designs for the lowest price. These companies are established companies with physical locations, therefore they have to increase the amount they charge to pay off some overheads: office rent, designer’s wages, advertising costs and so on.
These people are often working from home so they do not have a high operation cost like that of a company. The best way to do this would be to contact past clients and enquire from them about the service and results they got from using the web designer. Another route you can take is to design your website yourself.
For churches, charities, organizations and people who really want more control over their websites I offer wordpress blog and joomla cms installations and websites.
Convincing your prospects to purchase from you is a hard job, but have you ever thought that you’re making the process twice as difficult for both parties if your prospects are convinced but don’t know how to buy from you? No matter how good you are at convincing your prospects, they won’t buy if they find the process cumbersome. You can write a clear, concise paragraph to direct your prospects to your order form so that you can minimize the chances of them getting lost.
The more options you offer, the better your chances of covering your prospects’ desired payment method. You can also offer a money back guarantee so that people will feel confident about buying from you.
Make them feel safe about buying something from you, a total stranger to them on the other end of the Internet.
As a conclusion, it would be very pitiful if you sold hard and sold well to a prospect and something goes wrong when he or she is ready to pay. I do not design in Flash for a number of reasons listed below but there is a time and a place for it I know…
This whole new level of interactivity will always leave visitors coming back for more. No more woes over how a certain css code displays differently in Internet Explorer, Firefox and Opera. Flash is a lightweight option for animation because it is vector based (and hence smaller file sizes) as opposed to real ‘movie files’ that are raster based and hence much larger in size.
You’ll also have to put in additional work in redirecting the user to the Flash download page if he or she doesn’t have the player installed. If your content was presented in Flash, most search engines wouldn’t be able to index your content.
The longer your Flash takes to load, the more you risk losing visitors. The best way to go is to use Flash only when you absolutely need the interactivity and motion that comes with it.
For most small business owners a flash based website will be too expensive to develop. Your website is where your business resides — it’s like the headquarter of an offline company.
The navigation menu should be uncluttered and concise so that visitors know how to navigate around your website without confusion. Reduce the number of images on your website.
This is important because a block of text that is too large will deter visitors from reading your content. Make sure your website complies to web standards at www.w3.org and make sure they are cross-browser compatible. Heavy scripts will slow down the loading time of your site and even crash some browsers.

The Process of Web Design
October 19, 2009 by Hanna08 · 7 Comments
Introduction
The term ‘Web Design’ creates a lot of confusion and misunderstanding. The word design suggests graphics and layout so many people think that’s what designing a website is all about. Most people think that website design is very simple, all you need to do is install the company logo, add the relevant wording, decide on the arrangement of the pages and that’s it.
Well I am about to shock you by outlining the many complicated processes involved in web design. Think of it this way; when an architect designs a house all we see is the way he lays out the rooms, how the available space is arranged. We normally do not concern ourselves with the amount of technical detail that goes into the design. The architect has to work out the stresses on the walls and the weight of the roof. If there are fireplaces he has to know about draughts and the shape of chimney for it to do the job. He has to plan heating systems, plumbing systems, drainage and sewage, what type of windows to use, door fittings and many other details so that when it’s finally complete the overall effect is pleasing and suitable for the purpose intended. Web design is similar. A customer may have an idea of the layout of the website but will need the services of the Web Designer to make it all happen.
Stages in the Process
There are many items to be decided on before even starting to build a website. Some of the important questions to consider are:
Once the webmaster has the answers to these questions then she can start the process of designing the site to give you what you want.
Target Audience
What sort of people are going to visit the new website? Are your customers likely to be businesses, sales people, home owners, parents, teenagers or children and so on?
Objectives of the Website
Is the website to be used to sell products on line, or to market your business to get leads for new customers? Maybe you wanted it to be an online brochure to showcase your services. Balloons for trade have a website for resellers only so that they can look up the products before placing an order. Because there is no selling on line there are no contact details on the site. You may want to use the website to foster a community to be in contact with other likeminded people. You would need a design that incorporates a chat rooms and online discussions.
Being found on the Web
A vital web design procedure when setting up your new website is deciding on your search engine strategy and specifically which keywords to promote your products and services with.
The first step is a search of key words in the industry. Finding the best keywords is vital if you want to be in the top ten listed in Google. Every SEO or web designer will tell you this and it really is very very important. By using a keyword research tool you can find the single most popular (trophy) keyword; the one everyone puts in. For example people looking for a vacuum cleaner might type in Hoover although this is in fact a brand name. You will also need to research buying keywords, geographical variants and long tail keywords, these are keywords that are much more likely to convert into a sale but have lower search volumes, you can find out more information about these types of keywords by performing a web search.
Domain Names
Domain names can be the hardest part of setting up your website, because nearly every name you come up with will most certainly have been taken already. By far the most popular are domain names ending in .com as they are internationally recognised. For that reason alone the majority of shorter names will already have been registered.
Choosing names with endings such as .net; .co.uk .org .info may provide you with the domain name of your preference. When choosing your domain name it is a good idea to include one or more of your keywords. Although the name of your business may be the obvious choice for a Domain Name, it is not necessarily the only option.
So as you can see choosing domain names and keywords right at the beginning of the project will determine how the site is constructed so that it is suitable for the purpose required.
A brand new domain name space has just been created.
Companies can now register their name in this brand new .tel name space and it is intended to replace the telephone directory. When the domain name is viewed in your web browser it will provide the companies details and telephone number.
Creating a Site Map
It is very important to have a site map to outline the pages on your website, e-commerce website or forum space. It shows the design and flow through the website so that when selling on line, items work in order such as; adding product to basket, entering delivery and billing address and on to making credit card payment. The site map helps to identify how user friendly the website is so that there are no difficulties in getting onto the site. Often the user name and password are set for the customer so there is no hindrance to achieving the initial sale.
Non e-commerce sites are easier because it is possible to receive enquiries by email, without publishing the email address on the website. By using a contact form you will avoid junk mail and also validate the information before you receive it. The aim is to create a balance between discouraging junk mail, and making it easy for the enquirer to use the site.
Links
An important consideration when designing a website are links. These can be links to other pages of content within your website, and links within the content of your website in the text, as well as links from the menu. Consideration has to be given to whether the links will open in a separate window so you still have your original page open or will the new window replace the previous one.
The Copy
The copy is the words and visuals you want on your website. Having made decisions about the target market and relevant links, along with the keywords and using the site map information, the next step is to decide what imagery you want displayed. A picture speaks a thousand words and remains in people’s memory far longer than just words. So images are important to reach your audience. Each image needs a caption which is the ‘most read’ words on the page after the title. The caption of an image need to be clickable so that when you click on a picture it takes you to the next stage of the sales process.
Design
The final design of the website is often the most challenging stage of the process because it’s subjective. In a large corporation, many people from various departments will have an input for their division. Everyone has their own ideas of what they think the site should look like and trying to gain a consensus can be a nightmare because nobody will ever agree.
If you are setting up a web design project just for yourself then you will probably have a clear idea of what you want to see on the site. But even then unless your ideas are workable in the medium, you may have difficulty getting something you like.
Modern CMS content management system driven websites are great because they enable you to quickly and easily update certain content sections without having to refer to your web designer. However, it is important that you have a clear idea in your mind of how you want your website to look and all the content for each page, before any design or build work is done. A CMS is great for editing a quick sentence but you want your designer to create the entire site with content before you start editing it.
Look at competitor’s websites in mind of your ideas to make sure your design will be an improvement on what is already in the market place.
Once you have done that you will need to create a design brief. The design brief should have a reference to the logo and any existing brand guidelines, colour schemes and fonts adding in any other relevant material.
Having done a design brief look for a suitable graphic designer. Choose your designer carefully, finding one who designs specifically for screen and the web to achieve the very best results. Beware of choosing a graphic designer who designs for different discipline such as print as they are very different processes. Look at other works the designer has done and decide whether or not you like their style.
Using multiple graphic designers is the best option if you are working in the big time and budget allows. Give each designer the same brief and request three concept designs from each one. The client might also do a design, even if it’s a scribble on the back of an envelope, there will then be ten concept designs. Get everyone together and choose the preferred elements from each design. Once the items you want are selected choose one graphic designer to do the final artwork.
All parties need to agree on the final artwork before construction of the site begins. Consideration should be give to the fonts used for the titles and buttons etc. Fonts have to be licensed so if the designer has not supplied something then the developer will need a copy of the fonts to achieve the task. Professional graphic designers will usually provide the artworks in a layered Photoshop file so if titles are not going to be in plain text get the designer to also supply the fonts.
Production
At last all the ground work has been done and the site is ready to go into production. This is where it gets technical! You may not want to go into the detail in which case leave it to your Web Master to choose for you. There have to be decisions about what language to use, either Unix or Windows based, to build the website. Each have advantages and disadvantages with multiple variants but sites such as Ebay, Facebook, Google as well as other well known websites are built on Unix. Your website has to be built with the development language of your web host provider so that they are compatible.
Accessiblity and Compliance
These are current standards for website development to insure that disabled users, such as the visually impaired, can still access all sections of the website.
Development
Development of the website is best done on the web server where the site will reside. Those involved in reviewing the work can then monitor work in progress and provide feedback throughout the development.
Unforeseen Items
As the site building progresses the customer suddenly thinks of something they must have. No matter how well the web master prepares and asks the client the right questions, there are always some last minute adjustments to the programme. The main aim is to minimise last minute additions because they aren’t calculated in and will generate extra costs and cause delays to the date of the website going live.
Going live
At last your site is up and running and you see the results of all the preparation that has gone into the whole process. There is no substitute for real world testing so as soon as the site is live ask your friends and colleagues to view the website from their own computers and give feedback.
Marketing
Once the site is up and running it’s time to turn your attention to promoting your products by submitting the site to the search engines, writing articles, and press releases and generating links from forums, blogs and other social networking spaces.
Reporting and Monitoring
Choose an agency from your local online marketing company in Kent listings who can install your web stats package for you, then if there are any issues with the install you can quite easily arrange to get together in front of the same PC and go through the data. Some of the advanced options such as sales values on an ecommerce website can be tricky to setup and interpret initially.
Use a reliable statistics package such as Google Analytics or Web-Stat.com to collect and review website visitor data. All you will need is a small block of code inserted into each web page on your site to collect visitor information to help you assess the success of your products in near real time. Web-stat.com also monitors the website and alerts you by email and text message if the site goes down.
Conclusion
The title ‘Web Design’ is a bit misleading in that people often assume it means the graphic design on the home page and the branding of the product. Unless you are a computer expert, most people do not realise the amount of work that goes into designing and building of a website. Clients are not aware of the amount of complicated technical work necessary to build the systems that support what they want the website to do. In such a complex process anything that gets tacked on at the end will end up incurring more cost to your budget.
The degree of initial questioning is an indicator of how competent your Web Master will be. Every aspect of the construction has to be decided upon before you even start the design. These things may sound very technical to us non techies but it is essential for the Web Master to find out exactly what is required so that everything can be costed accurately and built into the design from the beginning.
