The Nuvi 755t is a great Portable GPS

The Nuvi 755t is a great Portable GPS. I’ve owned my 755T for a little while now. I waited to use it a bit before writing this review.
Overall I’m extremely happy with my Garmin. This is my 3rd GPS, the other two being built-in car units (one factory, one aftermarket). Of the three, the Garmin is the most user friendly, easiest to understand and follow, easiest to update by far, and is the fastest at tracking where I am.
I’ve had the opportunity to use the nuvi 755T in a few different cities on the west coast from California up to British Columbia. It accurately figures out where I am unless surrounded by huge buildings (e.g. downtown Los Angeles). The maps are super accurate, wherever I’ve gone the unit has shown me correct roads and routes.
Lane Assist does work. I can tell you from personal experience that it works in numerous cities. Whenever I get near a big interchange I at least get the lane arrows, and often get a picture of the signs. When these show up they are almost always accurate and extremely helpful.
Traffic data is mostly great for the Nuvi 755t. Occasionally I’ll start driving from an area that has no traffic information, but when I reach an area that does have traffic the unit will not pick it up. I have to restart the Garmin to pick up the new data. That’s not a huge deal, it takes about one minute.
The data in the unit is pretty thorough. I wanted to stop for coffee on a roadtrip not long ago and I told it to find the closest Starbucks. Sure enough, it showed me all of them in the area and let me easily add it as a quick side-trip.
One interesting feature that not everyone mentions is that, on many roads, the nuvi 755T Review displays the speed limit.
This is invaluable to me, as I do a lot of highway driving and I don’t always remember what the local limit is. I’d say it is accurate 95% of the time.
I did purchase an additional windshield mount for when I want to take the 755T in my other car (to supplement the now-outdated built-in unit). The one downside is that I have to bring the cord as well, because the supplied cord actually has the traffic receiver. I’d love to buy a 2nd cord, but at this time Garmin doesn’t sell the cord separately (two calls to Garmin confirmed this). So when I take the unit to the other car, I either carry the cord or use the battery charge if its not a very long trip.
One fun element of this unit is the ability to go to [...] and download different cars that represent you on the map. That way you can switch to whatever you feel like driving. I use the airplane. The download process couldn’t be easier, for both add-ons like this and nuvi 755t updated maps. Overall, if you can afford this unit, get it.
