How to Find a Piano Teacher

1. Select a piano teacher that has enough experience.

Okay, the teacher does not have to be a concert pianist or be the world’s best teacher, in order for you to learn piano well. That said, the teacher should not have too much to learn himself or herself. In particular, look for teachers who can address certain weaknesses that you may have as a piano student. One of the best ways to learn this information is to simply ask about how successful the teacher’s past students were.

2. Discover where the lessons will be taken.

While some teachers make house calls so you can learn piano, others require you to travel to their music studios or to their own homes. While having lessons in your home can be very convenient for you to learn piano, sometimes it is beneficial to wander out of your comfort zone. In fact, playing on different pianos can also help to improve your piano-playing skills.

3. Find out the length of the lessons.

Typically, piano lessons for you to learn piano will be 30, 45, or 60 minutes. For beginners, it is recommended that you have shorter lessons to learn piano, to prevent you from being overwhelmed with everything. However, if you want more intense lessons, you will probably need longer sessions, such as for an hour or so.

4. Find out if the teacher hosts recitals.

Once you have begun to learn piano, the thought of a recital can cause some massive stage fright. Did you realize that people are more afraid of public speaking than they are of death?  No matter what your feelings are, you need to find out if a teacher makes participation in recitals mandatory for students.

It is recommended that you hire a teacher that offers recitals.  This will give you a way to showcase your ever increasing skills as you learn piano.  A recital is a great way to share your talent with your family and friends, while boosting your overall confidence.
